Assistant Director for Creative Research
Christelle Barakat is a senior Political Science and International Affairs student at the Lebanese American University (LAU), minoring in conflict analysis and resolution, legal studies and gender studies. Barakat is also part of LAU’s honors program. Recipient of the highest GPA award for the 2017-2018 academic year and a Study of the United States Institutes alumna, Barakat has held numerous leadership positions. To name a few, she is the founding president of LAU’s Book Club, the vice president of LAU’s Civic Welfare Club and the Executive Editor of Mosaic (LAU’s independent student-led newspaper). Barakat has also been actively involved within LAU’s simulation programs, twice as a School Relations coordinator in MUN and once as a Trainer in MAL. Additionally, she has served as the Director of UN Habitat and Chair of the Historical Security Council within the Global Classrooms International Middle School LAU MUN conferences, giving the guest speaker speech at the UN General Assembly Hall during the 2019 closing ceremony of the conference. For the past 3 years, Barakat has been a research assistant within LAU’s social sciences department and has acquired additional research experience through internships at Media Association for Peace, the Institute of Finance Basil Fuleihan and MEPI Lebanon Alumni Association and from her work as a research assistant at LAU’s Institute of Social Justice and Conflict Resolution. Barakat is excitedly looking forward to serve as the Assistant Director for Creative Research within the 1stLAU Model African Union!
